This is the Museumgoer "workout tape," originally conceived as short pieces of pace music for the treadmill.
I have resisted using "beats" in Museumgoer releases, so it seemed like a good time to start. I find all these tracks work really well on repeat, creating floating cues for running intervals.
"Pagans at the ATM" was created entirely with GarageBand instruments while watching Star Trek. It was one of those episodes where they beamed down to a "primitive" society and had to contend with the concept of money.
"Museumgoer, Private Eye" is a 70s detective show theme featuring Hammond organ, theremin, and electric guitar. If I ever become a jazz bandleader, my band will do Quinn-Martin Productions themes (Barnaby Jones, Cannon, The Streets of San Francisco etc) and be called the Quinns Martin.
"And These Are Called 'Feelings'" involved rifling through a desk drawer I'd never opened and finding an iPod Nano in there.
“Sissy Fuss” came out of time spent with the neglected trash organ (featured prominently on Museumgoer 5) in the shed, covered with leaves and bug detritus after a summer of it being too hot to be in there. It is about a half step flat, so it doesn't play well with others. Not unlike the person playing it.
“Don’t Get an Office Job” features the sounds of things rolling or being dragged across my desk. Don't get an office job.
“Democracy in Action”- I am a poll custodian and this was recorded as commissioners were closing down at the close of voting, utilizing sounds of the machines being closed as well as ones from weight machines at the gym to punctuate cheery, synthesized optimism.
“Savasanarama” - In yoga, savasana is the corpse pose, where you lie on the mat at the end of practice and consciously relax your body, one part at a time. I get really excited as we near savasana. I could corpse pose the whole hour. One day, I will!
