From the onset of this project, I thought there should be a Museumgoer Christmas record, something to exist in the ether of Christmas records clogging every thrift store record bin. I'm not a religious person and for a long time, Christmas was a loaded holiday but one year, I discarded the baggage of the holiday and took it in as the time of year when we endulge in warmth against the cold, decoration against the demure, love against disdain.
Nothing sounds more Christmas to me than a tremolo guitar so it gets some time in the sun.
"It Snowed for a Minute" showed up like a magic reindeer in a blizzard.
"The Four Stages of Man" - My good friend Terry Kennedy passed away a number of years ago, but a mutual friend Josh Tilton recorded a video of Terry reciting this bit and reposts it every holiday season. Thanks, Josh.
"Krampus Advances!" started out as a wholly different, cheery guitar piece, but as I added GarageBand woodwinds and throbbing arp tones, a figure dedicated and sinister emerged.
"What is Santa Claus?" was suggested by friend, Museumgoer champion and Christmas music enthusiast Alex Rawls, who provided a magnetic reading of Stan Kenton's musing on the meaning of Santa. I went for a sort of snow globe/solar system model with the version of "Silent Night" that accompanies it. Check out Alex Rawls' "12 Songs of Christmas" podcast wherever you podcast.
